Why a Blog, from an old school, non-computer guy like me?

Well, let us see....

Because I welcome any opportunity to talk about painting, and can't resist an opportunity to spread my wares. I love my work and it is my life.

Because my kids put me up to it.

Because, one or two weeks at a time spread over 40 years, I have spent nearly 3 years in Cape May, and it has become a home away from home.

Because I need a better means to communicate; I'll get to that later.

Just a few weeks ago you were informed by snail-mail that I had closed up my studio in the city - commuting can't be anyone's favorite use of life - and began to work out my home studio. I've maintained a work space at home all along, of course, but all of my real work was produced in the city. I began my carreer focused on comercial artwork - books and agazines and the like. I always like the energy of the city and its sense of purpose. But, gradually, the bones grew weary and gradually I realized that I'm no longer doing the commercial work that drew me to the city. My focus is purely painting, for its own sake and for my enjoyment. That I produce images that bring others joy; well that is the reward of many years invested in my craft, and a rich reward at that.

In moving out of my office, looking in the cupboards and closets and through my racks of paintings, I discovered a lifetime of paintings I had nearly forgotten. I need to post pictures of those, when time permits. It is time for them to see daylight again.
